Back when I was a student in the mnialnad I`ll try not to think how long ago that was now, the neighbourhood banquet-ish restaurant somehow got added to a guide for foreigners visiting the Beijing, along with a list of helpful phrases to help them order and recommended regional dishes. Unfortunately the list was full of regional dishes for the northeast and not Beijing proper, and many of the items weren`t served at the restaurant. When my HK classmate and I would be there (a painfully regular thing, but their food really was quite good, considering that it was Beijing food), we`d inevitably be dragged over to a table full of foreign tourists to help explain that the dishes they were searching for weren`t available at the restaurant, and to help recommend some Beijing delicacies. It ended up being embarrassing for all parties. If only they had something like this back then. ; )
