A survey of Islamic arts, covering 1000 years, from the birth of Islam in the 7th century AD, to the 17th-century splendours of the Safavid courts. Major art forms, such as architecture, manuscript illumination and the decorative arts, are examined both in their cultural and non-Islamic contexts.
