The International Herald Tribune (IHT) hosted a major investment summit at The Regent Almaty on June 8th and 9th 2006 to provid e leader s and investors from around the world with an up-to-the-minute outlook on investment prospects in Kazakhstan . The Kazakhstan Investment Summit is one of a series of summit meetings that the IHT has organized in countries around the world to allow investors to meet key government decision-makers and local business leaders for high-level, open debate and discussion.

The program featured H.E. President Nursultan Nazarbaev and key members of the Kazakhstan government, as well as business and political leaders from the region, Asia, Europe and the United States. The summit was co-chaired by Michael Golden, the vice-chairman of The New York Times Company and publisher of the International
Herald Tribune, and Karim Massimov, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan and minister of Economy and Budget Planning.
The program included investors’ panels which presented views of existing major investors in the country on the economic development in Kazakhstan, current investment climate, opportunities for investments and investment legislation. Summit highlights also included presentations and discussions from government and commercial speakers
on production and marketing developments in the oil and gas industry, the capacity of the oil refining sector, regional cooperation, environmental policy, financial sector growth, and development of Almaty as a regional financial center.
